Rosatom signs agreements with Morocco and Algeria

Morocco’s Ministry of Energy, Mineral Resources and Sustainable Development and the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom on 12 October signed a memorandum of understanding on the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

The memorandum paves the way for bilateral cooperation in basic and applied research, use of radioisotopes and radiation technologies in the industry, agriculture, medicine etc., nuclear fuel cycle products and services supply, and assistance in developing Morocco’s nuclear infrastructure, as well as maintenance and equipment supply for Morocco’s national nuclear programme. 

The document also includes assistance in education, training of administrative and scientific personnel, as well as support in raising public awareness and acceptance of nuclear energy. 

Joint studies will be undertaken to investigate the possibility of including nuclear power in the energy mix of Morocco based on Russian expertise and technology. 

Rosatom also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Atomic Energy Commissariat of Algeria on 10 October on cooperation in training and personnel training.
