Doosan begins nuclear work

Korea’s Doosan Heavy has begun preliminary excavation work on Shin-Wolsong 1 and 2.

Meanwhile, having obtained the construction permit from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the initial concrete installation ceremony at Shin-Kori 2 was held on 5 June. With the concrete work now begun, Shin-Kori nuclear reactor 2 will be installed next year, says Doosan, which will supply the nuclear reactor, steam generators and other major items of equipment.

Shin-Wolsong 1 and 2 and Shin-Kori 1 and 2 are due to be completed by 2012 with Shin Wolsong Unit 1 due to see concrete pouring beginning in December and Unit 2 concrete pouring to begin in the following June. Fuel loading will begin in April 2011 and 2012 respectively before commercial operations begin in December 2010 for Unit 1 and December 2011 for Unit 2.


Concrete pouring for Unit 1 at Shni-Kori began in June last year. Fuel loading at Shin-Kori 1 & 2 will begin in June 2010 and June 2011 respectively, before commercial operations begin six months later in the December of the respective years.
