Handling systems to be used at the Yucca Mountain repository will be designed by Cogema, under a $29.7 million contract awarded by site managing contractor Bechtel SAIC.

In the four and a half year contract, Cogema will lead a team of companies from its parent Areva group, to provide operational design support for the repository’s surface facility. This is the area where high level waste will be received and prepared before being placed in the repository.
