BNFL approaches the end of days

7 December 2005

UK state-owned nuclear group BNFL will cease to exist in five years' time if the sales of Westinghouse and British Nuclear Group (BNG) proceed as planned, said chairman Gordon Campbell, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Campbell told the paper that BNFL is just weeks away from agreeing outline terms for the £1 billion ($1.72 billion) sale of its subsidiary Westinghouse.

BNFL is also expected to sell BNG, although a final decision is unlikely until the new year, Campbell said, as the company believes that BNG has more of a chance of winning contracts as part of a bigger group rather than having to compete on its own.
