Gian Luca Artizzu, CEO of Italy’s Sogin, and Professor Chang Lak Kim, Executive Dean of South Korea’s Kepco International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS), have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at exchanging information and experiences and developing training programmes in the nuclear field. The three-year agreement has three objectives:
- Knowledge development: enhancing the training of technical staff, ranging from professional courses to advanced university masters, with a specific focus on decommissioning of nuclear plants and management of radioactive waste.
- Sharing of experience facilitating mutual personal acquaintance and direct learning of best practices through meetings between the technical staff of the two companies.
- Programme development and implementation including creating and implementing educational programmes and workshop on nuclear related issues.
The agreement was formalised at the end of four days of meetings in Italy between representatives of the two companies, that are both Collaboration Centres of the International Atomic Energy Agency. While in Italy, the Korean delegation visited the Latina NPP (undergoing decommissioning) and the Nucleco headquarters and laboratories, all based at the Casaccia research centre on the outskirts of Rome.
