Head of Rosatom, Sergey Kiryenko said, 4 October, that 230 million roubles (EUR 5.3 million) has been allocated to funding a feasibility study for a second nuclear power plant at Kola.
The studies could start in 2012, according to Kiryenko. Construction is due to begin on the first unit of Kola II in 2015, with commissioning scheduled for 2020, he told reporters. The reactor will be either a VVER-1000 or VVER-1200, he said.
In a statement Rosatom said the scheduled could change, however, depending on the forecast for electricity consumption.
