Shaw wins Wolf Creek maintenance contract

17 May 2012

The Shaw Group Inc. has signed a three-year contract with Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation to provide maintenance and other support services to its nuclear power plant in Kansas. The value of the contract has not been disclosed.

The Wolf Creek Generating Station is a 1280 MW four-loop Westinghouse pressurized water reactor that began operation in May 1985. In 2008, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission renewed the operating licence for the plant, allowing it to operate for sixty years.

In a statement, president of Shaw’s plant services division Ron McCall said that Shaw’s resume of nuclear maintenance work has prepared it to help Wolf Creek advance their goals of producing safe, reliable and cost-competitive energy.

“Operating a single-unit nuclear power plant can present unique challenges, and we are confident that Shaw’s experience serving other single-unit plants will benefit Wolf Creek and their customers,” McCall said.
