Schedule set for American Centrifuge

30 November 2006

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has detailed a tentative schedule anticipating a licensing decision for USEC’s American Centrifuge plant in May 2007.

Construction for the commercial plant is expected to begin after the license is issued with the lead cascade of machines expected to be installed and operating by mid-2007 at the USEC demonstration facility in Piketon, Ohio.

Once completed the American Centrifuge plant will use 3.5 million units based on gas centrifuge technology.

The NRC had previously indicated that a decision would be issued in March 2007.
