The Egyptian Nuclear Power Authority (NPPA) has organised an on-site inspection to confirm preparations for pouring the first concrete into the foundation slab of the reactor compartment for unit 4 of the El-Dabaa NPP being built by Rosatom. The inspection also included representatives of the Egyptian Nuclear & Radiological Control Authority (ENRRA) and JSC VO Safety, which provides technical support to the agency.

An on-site inspection is carried out as part of the prescribed procedures required for issuing a permit for the construction of a power unit. The inspectors reviewed the design documents required to start construction and confirmed their compliance with all regulatory requirements. The inspection also covered the production of concrete mixes and included laboratory tests to check the reliability of the materials used and the readiness of the infrastructure for the main construction work at unit 4.

The Commission confirmed the successful joint work of representatives of NPPA and Russia’s JSC Atomstroyexport in preparing for pouring the first concrete. It was noted that similar inspections at units 1-3 were also taken into account in the assessment. The pouring of the first concrete at El Dabaa 4 is now scheduled for the last quarter of this year after ENRRA issues a building permit.
