A driver was killed when an unmanned aerial vehicle or drone struck the transport workshop of the Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP) on 27 April, Rosatom reported. “This is a terrible and irreplaceable loss. We deeply mourn with the family and friends of the deceased. The pain of this loss cannot be expressed in words. The family of the deceased will receive all necessary assistance and support,” Rosatom said. “Employees of the nuclear industry should not become targets. Any attacks on ZNPP are a threat not only to people, but also to security in general. “
In a post on X the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it had been informed by the ZNPP that a drone strike this morning killed a driver at its transport workshop in the vicinity of the plant site. The IAEA’s team on the site will look into the incident and continue to monitor the situation.
Yevgeniya Yashina, ZNPP Director of Communications Evgeniya Yashina said that the intensity of the attacks on the industrial zone, infrastructure, and residential areas of Energodar, as well as the territories adjacent to the plant, remains high. She confirmed that an employee had been killed in the attack, marking the first time a ZNPP employee had been killed in the workplace.
