Recently privatised United States Enrichment Corp has announced a site selection process for a new production facility utilising its Atomic Vapour Laser Isotope Separation (AVLIS) uranium enrichment process. A site is likely to be chosen early next year.
Construction is likely to begin in 2002, with production starting in 2005. Factors considered in selecting the site include environmental and socio-economic indicators, construction and operating costs and community support. The development is likely to cost $2 billion and the completed facility will employ around 1300 people.
