The USA and Kazakhstan have begun talks on the security of 3.3t of weapons-grade plutonium from a potentially vulnerable Caspian Sea port. The plutonium was created by the country’s BN-350 FBR, which is currently undergoing decommissioning. Although the USA has not formally agreed to become involved with the operation, it is the country that is most likely to assist in the shipping of the plutonium 1350 miles to Semipalatinsk, a former nuclear testing site.
