The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Ali Akbar Salehi, said on 31 May that restructuring work is underway at the Fordo nuclear facility near Qom. "We have planned for new activities to be conducted at Fordo, including the production of stable isotopes.

We have completed the preliminary steps for these activities," he said. He noted that the IR-1 centrifuges would need to be modified in order to produce stable isotopes. "In order to install this equipment in Fordo, we need to provide residences for the engineers. We also need to construct auxiliary buildings for the site. These buildings will be completed by the set deadline, in a year at most," he added.
