Westinghouse wins contract from SCE&G

30 July 2009

Westinghouse Electric Company and its consortium partner Shaw Group Inc. have been awarded a contract by South Carolina Electric and Gas Company (SCE&G) to provide nuclear maintenance, modification, refuelling outage and design engineering services to its existing V.C. Summer nuclear station unit 1.

The companies will also provide the same service to units 2 and 3 at V.C. Summer station, Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear plants scheduled for completion in 2016 and 2019, respectively.

The contract is an extension of the relationship established by Westinghouse and its consortium team member, the Nuclear Division of Shaw's Power Group, to provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for the two new AP1000s to be operated by SCE&G and the South Carolina Public Service Authority (Santee Cooper). Under the new contract, Westinghouse and Shaw will provide services for all three units.

"We look forward to providing the wide range of services that will enable all three units to operate in the safest and most reliable manner possible," said Nick Liparulo, senior vice president, Westinghouse Nuclear Services. "We will work closely with our customer to help further enhance the high operational standard that SCE&G has achieved with unit 1 over more than 25 years."
