5 July 2016

A meeting on 30 June at the Khmelnitsky NPP in Ukraine on the construction of units 3 and 4 was attended by representatives of the Czech company UJV Rez, Atomproektenginnering, and Kiev Research, Design and Engineering Institute Energoproekt. "The event was carried out as part of the technical analysis of a possibility to complete construction of the Kmelnitsky NPP power units," nuclear utility Energoatom said in its statement. After studying the partly-built units, the attendees discussed the possibility of implementing a new reactor vessel cooling system (RVCS) in construction of the units, as well as engineering solutions related to heat removal from the containment, the statement noted. Representatives of UJV Rez suggest implementing a "state-of-the-art system for managing beyond design basis accidents involving core meltdown", which "is able to increase several times the capabilities of managing such accidents", according to UJV Rez vice president for business development, Jiri Zdarek.
