Meanwhile, the country’s nuclear power industry forum has called for the extension of nuclear plant operating lifetimes from 40 to 60 years. The new chairman of the forum, Eduardo Gonzalez, said that the Jose Cabrera, Zorita reactor has operated since 1968, which means that it could close in 2008. The government is due to debate on the issue of life extension in 2005.
