US-based nuclear technology company NANO Nuclear has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with engineering services company Enveniam to accelerate the commercialisation of microreactors, advance domestic nuclear fuel infrastructure, and implement commercial energy applications.

The exploratory partnership outlines six specific workstreams targeting critical operational bottlenecks in the emerging nuclear value chain:

  • Nuclear fuel transportation: optimisation of transport-basket engineering, security protocols, and regulatory filings for high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU);
  • Conversion and deconversion: criticality-safety analysis and technical design for prospective domestic uranium conversion infrastructure;
  • Microreactor commercialisation: siting, regulatory licensing, and deployment readiness for NANO Nuclear’s proprietary KRONOS MMR Energy System;
  • Advanced manufacturing: architectural design and earned-value baseline management planning for a US-based reactor and fuel module manufacturing facility;
  • Domestic fuel supply chain: sourcing strategy, technical qualification frameworks, and delivery compliance systems; and
  • Commercial energy markets: joint deployment targeting energy-intensive commercial hubs, off-grid communities, and artificial intelligence data centres.

“Commercialising advanced nuclear technology requires more than a strong reactor design,” said NANO Nuclear CEO James Walker. “It requires disciplined licensing, safety analysis, project controls, supply-chain coordination, manufacturing planning and operational readiness. Enveniam’s capabilities closely align with our expertise and business plans across these critical workflows. We believe this collaboration can help us evaluate projects more efficiently, identify execution risks earlier and build stronger delivery plans as opportunities advance toward definitive agreements.”

NANO said the MOU establishes a framework through which the companies will explore utilizing Enveniam’s experience in nuclear engineering, project integration, safety analysis, licensing support, project controls, operational readiness and complex energy infrastructure to advance NANO Nuclear’s developing reactor, nuclear fuel fabrication and transportation capabilities. Any specific services, funding, projects or commercial commitments between the parties would be subject to separate definitive agreements.

The MOU calls for establishing a joint working group that would meet periodically to review potential business opportunities, identify projects that may warrant a funded statement of work or task order, and consider joint applications for federal or state funding. Each company would retain discretion over the information it shares and the opportunities it elects to pursue.

The MOU does not obligate either company to proceed with a particular project, provide services, commit funding or enter into a commercial transaction. Any such activity would require separate definitive agreements establishing the applicable scope, schedule, responsibilities, economics, intellectual-property arrangements and regulatory requirements.

Financially and operationally, this agreement is a statement of intent, not a concrete commercial milestone. No capital changed hands. Neither company has committed a single dollar to fund any of these six workstreams. Either company can walk away tomorrow with zero penalties. The announcement lacks concrete deadlines or milestones for when these technical studies will begin. NANO Nuclear is a pre-revenue design company, and Enveniam is a service provider. Until NANO Nuclear secures major funding or a paying customer, these plans remain theoretical blueprints.
