Russia plans to promote nuclear energy and increase production from the present 14% of the country’s electricity demand to 33% by 2030, according to a Minatom report.
Russia’s 29 operational power plants generated more than 130.6TWh of electricity in 2000, compared with 110.9TWh in 1999. Atomic energy minister Yevgeny Adamov said nuclear power was the first Russian industry sector to exceed Soviet-era production levels.
