TVA has signed a multi-year contract with Framatome ANP to supply multiple TVA nuclear units with fuel assemblies using low-enriched uranium derived from weapons-grade fuel. Framatome will blend the fuel from the assemblies to lower enrichments.
The TVA project is part of the US Department of Energy programme to reduce stockpiles of highly-enriched uranium. Framatome, as prime contractor, will produce the fuel pellets and fuel assemblies.
