A research and development cooperation agreement between Euratom and China on peaceful uses of nuclear technology has been approved by the European Union (EU) Council of Ministers.

The collaboration between EU and Chinese nuclear scientists would include work on radiation protection and monitoring; nuclear safeguards, safety and technology; nuclear metrology and reference materials; decommissioning of nuclear installations; management of radioactive waste; education and training; and others.

Cooperation would be wide, spanning direct participation in projects, exchanges, information sharing and other assistance.
