Atkins has been selected by Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) to undertake fire hazard analysis services at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station in Japan.

Under the contract Atkins will prepare a fire hazards analysis for the entire Fukushima Daiichi site. The work will involve a thorough review of plant documentation, as well as on-site inspections to identify fire hazards, determine consequences in relation to site nuclear safety goals and radioactivity release to the environment, and provide recommendations for fire prevention, detection, suppression, and containment.

Atkins says its Graphical Logic Analysis Support Software or GLASS software package will help Tepco make critical decisions about the safety of the plant by improving speed, accuracy and transparency through use of its unique data-capturing platform.

The contract was awarded to Atkins’ nuclear business unit in North America, and follows the acquisition of Nuclear Safety Associates in September 2014.
