Director "Nuclear Decommissioning and Waste Management"

The Director will head the new Directorate in charge of implementing the Decommissioning and Nuclear Waste Management programme of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC). The Director will be based in Ispra (Italy) and will work in close cooperation with the three other JRC nuclear sites: Geel (Belgium), Petten (The Netherlands) and Karlsruhe (Germany). The aim of the programme is to either transform the four nuclear sites for non-nuclear purposes or to explore the transfer of the required decommissioning, spent fuel and radioactive waste management liabilities to the host Member States in case of a mutual agreement.

Your responsibilities:
  • Managing resources to achieve the objectives of the Directorate in an efficient, effective and economic manner;
  • Ensuring compliance with the relevant legal obligations, applicable safety and licensing standards of host countries;
  • Performing an effective evaluation and reporting of its activities.
Your skills:
  • Professional experience in high level technical and project management, supervising both internal specialists and external service providers;
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with nuclear safety and security in the context of industrial nuclear decommissioning activities;
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
