Doosan Enerbility to supply feeder pipes for Cernavoda NPP

South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility has signed a contract with Canada’s Candu Energy to produce and supply feeder pipes for unit 1 of Romania’s Cernavoda NPP. This is the fifth order for feeder pipes, following those for NPPs in China and Canada. Feeder pipes are an important part of a pressurised heavy water reactor (PHWR). They are pipes through which coolant flows to control reactor temperature. Under this contract, Doosan Enerbility will supply a total of 1,520 feeder pipes to Candu Energy by 2027.

Canadian provinces sign MOU on nuclear development

KHNP to collaborate with Canadian firms on SMR deployment

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), Canada-based ARC Clean Technology and New Brunswick Power (NB Power) have signed a non-binding trilateral Collaboration Agreement to further cooperation with the goal of establishing teaming agreements for global small modular reactor (SMR) fleet deployment. The agreement was signed at the Reuters SMR and Advanced Reactor 2024 Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

Gunfire continues in vicinity of the Zaporizhia NPP

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts reported hearing over 100 rounds of gunfire in the vicinity of the Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP), allegedly in response to drones flying near the plant’s training centre, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi said.

Rosatom installs transport airlock and steam heaters at Akkuyu 1

A transportation airlock has been installed into the design position at unit 1 of the Akkuyu NPP under construction in Türkiye. The airlock will insulate the inner compartments from the environment, and ensure safe transportation of nuclear materials and equipment into the reactor compartment. It was installed using a caterpillar crane.

Studies underway for Philippines microreactor

Manila Electric Co (Meralco), in partnership with US-based Ultra Safe Nuclear Corp (USNC), is to proceed with a formal feasibility study for development of micro modular reactors following the completion of its pre-feasibility study. Meralco and USNC completed the prefeasibility study within the Meralco franchise area for the possible deployment of micro modular reactor (MMR) and fully ceramic micro-encapsulated (FCM) nuclear fuel technologies.

Clean-up completed at ORNL reactor demolition site

US Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM) crews have completed clean-up operations associated with the demolition of a major reactor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Workers finished the teardown of the Low Intensity Test Reactor and disposition of rubble and debris from the facility last fall, achieving an EM priority that year. However, the reactor vessel remained on the building’s footprint until it could be shipped for final disposition offsite.
