ZEBRA leaves Winfrith Heath

Final decommissioning and environmental restoration of the Zero Energy Breeder Reactor Assembly (ZEBRA) research reactor located at Winfrith, in the UK’s Dorset has been completed, the UKAEA has reported.

ZEBRA began operations in 1962 and operated for 20 years before it was shut down and the fuel removed. From 1989, ZEBRA was placed in care and maintenance until preparations for decommissioning began in 2001.
