Westinghouse wins Swedish fuel contracts

18 March 2013

The contracts, with Vattenfall Nuclear Fuel, cover fuel deliveries in 2015, with "an option for additional deliveries in 2016," Westinghouse said.

Westinghouse has been "one of the main suppliers" of fuel for the Forsmark and Ringhals nuclear power plants since 1973, delivering over 11,500 fuel assemblies to the plants.

In 2009, it was awarded replacement fuel contracts for Forsmark 1&3 and Ringhals 2, 3 & 4 for the period 2011 to 2014.

In February 2012, Russia's TVEL announced that its Russian-developed and manufactured TVS-K fuel assemblies would be delivered for unit 3 of the Ringhals pressurized water reactor for qualification. TVEL claimed that this would represent the first time the Russian-designed fuel has been licensed for use in a Western PWR.
