25 November 2010

Westinghouse Electric Company announced November 23 that it has been awarded a five-year contract to provide an extensive array of engineering services to Asociacion Nuclear Asco Vandellos (ANAV) nuclear plants in Spain.

Westinghouse will provide Nuclear Steam Supply Station (NSSS) and balance-of-plant (BOP) support, including systems engineering; Probabilistic Risk Assessment (Class 1 and 2); NSSS mechanical and instrumentation and control (I&C) components; diagnosis and engineering of motor-operated valves (MOVs) and air-operated valves (AOVs); safety and transient analysis; mechanical and fluid systems electrical, I&C, civil and stress analysis; and environmental and seismic qualification. Westinghouse also will deliver approximately 100 design change packages each year of the contract, which runs until end of June 2015.

More than 130 Westinghouse employees currently are located at the Vandellos and Asco nuclear plant sites in Tarragona, Spain, providing an extensive array of engineering services. Both nuclear plants have Westinghouse-supplied pressurized water reactors.

“Westinghouse has had a longstanding and positive relationship with ANAV since plant construction,” said Jorge Banos, director of Westinghouse Plant Engineering Services in Tarragona, in a statement.

“This most recent engineering contract gives us the opportunity to continue to team with this important customer to help them achieve their operational objectives. Additionally it enables us to serve as a dedicated interface for Westinghouse-implemented projects on site.”
