Westinghouse and TR buy Initec

27 August 1999

Spain Westinghouse Electric and Madrid-based Tecnicas Reunidas (TR) are to jointly purchase Initec, a leading Spanish architect-engineering firm, for $32 million.

Initec has designed and supplied many of Spain’s nuclear power stations as well as working in the global market.

“Initec’s nuclear division complements the services and technologies provided by Westinghouse Technology Services, our existing Spanish based nuclear subsidiary,” said Tony Granda, managing director, Westinghouse Spain. “By joining forces with Initec and TR, we will be able to better service the entire Spanish nuclear market.” Westinghouse and Initec have co-operated in the past, particularly in the development of Westinghouse’s advanced PWRs, the AP600 and APWR 1000.
