Turboatom signs contract for work at Paks

17 July 2015

Ukraine's Turboatom has signed a contract to modernise eight turbines at four units of Hungary's Paks nuclear plant. The turbines were manufactured and supplied by Turbatom in 1978-1983.

“The modernisation will result in increased power, longer service life, and an increase in operation time between repairs from four to six years," a Turboatom's statement said.

One of the main improvements is seven-stage through section of high-pressure cylinders instead of six-stage section. Equipment installation will be on the existing foundations without changes of the building structures.

The equipment should be ready between 2016 and 2018. To date, all major blanks have been designed and are undergoing manufacture.
