Thorp back in business

30 May 2001

Operations have restarted at Sellafield’s Thorp and Magnox plants. Both plants were unable to reprocess fuel until a new caustic scrubber to treat ventilation gases from Building 215 was installed.

Building 215 accepts high level waste separated from the uranium and plutonium during reprocessing and, because no high level waste could be transferred, reprocessing had to be suspended.
