Things moving at Olkiluoto

At Olkiluoto, Finland, the lower part of the steel liner for the reactor containment building of unit 3 has been installed on its concrete base slab. Made of 6mm steel, the 8m-high liner cup has a diameter of about 50m and a weighs more than 180t. It will eventually reach a height of more than 60m.

The next step in this part of the project is the work on the inner foundation, the concrete slab inside the liner and the foundation for the reactor pit. This work will be done over the next three months.

Upon completion in 2009, the Olkiluoto 3 EPR should generate 1600MWe for consumer-owned energy wholesaler Teollisuuden Voima Oy.
