Techsnabexport plans uranium development

17 May 2007

Russia’s Techsnabexport (Tenex) has won a tender to develop eight uranium deposits in the Elkon mining area in the southern part of the Republic of Sakha-Yakutia in Kazakhstan. Regions include Elkon, Elkon plateau, Kurung, Neprokhodimoye, Druzhnoye, Severnoye, Interesnoye and Lunnoye Yakutia

The prospected reserves of the deposits total 320,000 tonnes, around 6% of the global reserves, and will serve as a basis for a future mining company – the biggest in Russia – which will expectedly produce 5,000 tonnes of uranium a year by 2020.

The first uranium is supposed to be received by 2010.
