Swedish regulator orders more vessel checks at Ringhals 2

28 August 2012

The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority has decided that Ringhals AB must increase the number of its planned inspections of Ringhals 2 reactor pressure vessel as of the reactor’s annual refuelling and maintenance outage on 15 September.

The background is the manufacturing defects reported from inspections of the Belgian nuclear reactor Doel 3. Doel 3 and Ringhals 2 have reactor pressure vessels from the same manufacturer.

SSM said in a statement that it requires Ringhals to “increase the number of inspections and consider their improvement in the future.” Ringhals must present an action plan to the regulator by 1 June 2013.
