Reactor pressure vessel for Shin Hanul nuclear plant in South Korea

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced that it has completed and shipped the reactor vessel for the APR-1400 nuclear power plant currently under construction in Uljin County, North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea.

The reactor vessel measures 12.1 meters in height and 5.9 meters in diameter, weighs 415 tons, and is made with steel sheet measuring up to 297mm in thickness.

The system design of reactor was conducted by KEPCO Engineering & Construction Company. The component was designed and produced by Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. The RPV is the company's third.

The Shin Hanul Nuclear Power Plant 1 is the third APR-1400 type nuclear power plant to be constructed in Korea after the Shin Kori Power Plants 3 and 4. The new plant is expected to start commercial operation in April 2017.

The APR (Advanced Power Reactor) 1400 was developed independently by Korea.
