29 January 2001

Russia has approved credit for about 85% of the total costs for a two-unit power plant at Kudankulam in southern India. The loan will finance design and manufacturing services to be provided by Minatom. The cost for the 1000MW VVER reactors is estimated at $2.5 billion. Kundankulam is due to be completed within six years and India is committed to repaying Russia within 12 years of the completion date.
