Rosatom to supply fuel components for Egyptian research reactor

The Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrate Plant (NCCP or NZKhK – Novosibirskii Zavod KhimConsentratov), part of Rosatom’s fuel company TVEL, has signed a contract with the Egypt Atomic Energy Authority (EAEA) for the supply of low-enriched nuclear fuel components for the ETRR-2 research reactor. The products include uranium components, as well as aluminium alloy products and aluminium powder. Delivery will be completed in 2024.

The ETRR-2 research reactor, located in the national Egyptian Centre for Nuclear Research in Inshas. Egypt has closed 1961 2 MWt Russian supplied research reactor at Inshas as well as the 22 MWt ETRR-2 material testing reactor supplied by Argentina’s INVAP, that started up in 1997. The Inshas site also hosts a Waste Management & Hot laboratories Centre as well as a Fuel Manufacturing Pilot Plant (FMPP.

TVEL will also supply of fuel for four unit El Dabaa NPP under construction with Russian assistance.
