Point Lepreau refit wins support

3 July 2003

Bernard Lord, premier of New Brunswick, has expressed his support for the refurbishment of NB Power's Point Lepreau. He said that the plant is likely to receive a $620 million funding package for the necessary maintenance and upgrades for the plant to operate until 2032, instead of the pending 2006 closure date. The government is hoping to find a partner in the private sector to help finance the package, but it has not ruled out providing all the finance itself.

Lord also announced support for a $29 million power line to export electricity from Point Lepreau to the USA.
