NRC approves Brunswick life extension

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has renewed the operating licences for units 1 and 2 of the Brunswick nuclear plant for an additional 20 years.

Located south of Wilmington, North Carolina, at the mouth of the Cape Fear River, the renewal will see unit 1 operating until September 2036 and unit 2 until December 2034. Carolina Power & Light Co. submitted its renewal application in October 2004.
