New Director General appointed at Zaporizhia NPP federal enterprise

5 April 2024

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin has signed a decree appointing Vladislav Isaev as General Director of the Zaporizhia NPP (ZNPP) Federal State Unitary Enterprise (FSUE). He will hold the position for two years. The relevant document is published on the website of the official publication of legal acts.

Russia took control of ZNPP in March 2022 and on 5 October, President Vladimir Putin signed a decree formally transferring ZNPP to Russian jurisdiction under nuclear utility Rosenergoatom (part of Rosatom). The ZNPP FSUE was established by Rosenergoatom to operate the plant. Rosimushchestvo (Federal Property Management Agency) was instructed to appoint a general director, approve the company's charter and ensure the formation of a statutory fund in the amount of RUB500,000. However, the post of general director remained unfilled. A separate ZNPP operating organisation was established headed by former chief engineer of Russia’s Balakov NPP, Oleg Romanenko. In November 2022, Yuri Chernichuk was appointed plant director. Both Romanenko and Chernichuk retain their positions under Isaev.

After some Russian media reported that either Romanenko or Chernichuk had been replaced by Isaev, the official telegram channel of ZNPP issued a clarification. The statement said: "We remind you that ZNPP is owned by the Russian Federation through the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Zaporizhia NPP. Vladislav Isaev has been appointed as the General Director of FSUE ZNPP. At the same time, the right to operate the station was transferred in October 2022 to an operating organisation, whose general director is Oleg Romanenko. Yuri Chernichuk is the director of a separate operating division of Zaporizhia NPP."
