New company will retain R E Ginna

30 March 2001

The new company created by the merger of the New York utilities Energy East and RGS Energy Group will keep the R E Ginna NPP. The merger will take effect in about one year’s time, if approved by federal and state regulators. Other New York utilities are selling off their generating plants, but analysts believe that this practice was a major contributor to the recent problems faced by Californian electric utilities.
