19 January 2010

Westinghouse has appointed three major suppliers for its UK AP1000 project.

Westinghouse will join a consortium that includes the Shaw Group and UK construction firm Laing O'Rourke to build AP1000 units in the UK.

Westinghouse and Shaw have worked together since the mid-1950s, and are currently collaborating on the Sanmen AP1000 project in China.

In the UK, work scope for the Shaw/Laing O'Rourke partnership will include engineering, procurement, construction and construction management.

Westinghouse has also selected Serco to support the UK government approval process of the AP1000 design as lead nuclear safety advisor. The UK generic design assessment process is scheduled to conclude in June 2011.
