Iranian Arak reactor said to be ready by 2007

1 April 2005

An exiled Iranian opposition group, The National Council of Resistance, has reportedly claimed that a heavy water reactor in central Iran should be commissioned by 2007, well ahead of its official completion date.

The group said that the construction of the 40MW reactor near Arak was nearing completion and the facility was already producing heavy water.

Iran informed the International Atomic Energy Agency that the reactor would be finished in 2014, according to the group.
