Heysham 2 gets a lift

30 March 2001

The Gateshead-based SEV Group in the UK have delivered the first of four electric-powered, self-propelled lifting trolleys for moving steel floor slabs covering the main reactor.

SEV design engineering manager Lincoln Dodd said: “The trolleys were originally mains powered through umbilical cords which resulted in trailing wires, so our first concern was how to engineer the battery power to enable a vehicle weighing about 3000kg to work realistic cycles and still carry loads of up to its own weight.”
