German economics minister backing nuclear

14 December 2005

Michael Glos, Germany's economy minister, has suggested that plans to abandon nuclear generation in the country should be reappraised, according to local media reports.

Glos told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung that Germany should reconsider the decision to phase out its existing plants as such a move would necessitate power imports. He said: "We should not turn our backs on a technology of the future...But I hope that the last word has not been spoken. The tussle between coalition partners who work well together over what makes economic sense never ends."
