GE's Morris store receives licence extension

18 January 2005

The US Nuclear Regulatory Comission (NRC) has granted a licence extension to General Electric's Morris spent nuclear fuel store. Morris is now permitted to operate until 2022.

Although Morris' previous 20-year licensing period ended in 2002, the facility was allowed to keep operating as an application had already been filed for extension.

This is the first licence extension the NRC has granted to an independent spent fuel store.
