France will have to defend itself at the European Court of Justice over an alleged failure to respect the Euratom Directive on Informing the Public in Event of Radiological Emergencies, after legal threats from the European Commission did not produce reforms. Brussels claims French legislation neither ensures that communities affected by a radiological emergency are “informed immediately about the facts and steps to be taken,” nor protects rescue workers.
