Entergy/FPL merger off

30 April 2001

A merger that would have created the second largest nuclear power generator in the US has been called off. FPL Group of Miami, Florida and Entergy of New Orleans, Louisiana, cancelled the deal citing management issues of the combined company and the value of some assets. The combined company would have had 12 nuclear units generating 10,000MWe. Entergy owns both Arkansas Nuclear One units, Grand Gulf, Pilgrim, River Bend and Waterford 3 and has purchased James A FitzPatrick and Indian Point 3. FPL owns both St Lucie units, and Turkey Point 3 and 4.
