US-based EnergySolutions has completed its acquisition of Cabrera Services, a provider of environmental and radiological remediation services. Cabrera established in 1994, provides services to commercial and federal clients and will be fully integrated into EnergySolutions’ federal programme.

Cabrera office locations include Buffalo, New York; Sacramento, California; and Hartford, Connecticut. Clients include the US Army Corps of Engineers, US Navy, US Air Force, US Department of Energy, US Department of Agriculture, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency Department of Veteran Affairs and multiple other federal and state government agencies, in addition to numerous commercial clients.

EnergySolutions, President & CEO Ken Robuck said the acquisition “strengthens our capabilities for federal project execution and remediation, brings a legacy of great client relations and successful project delivery, and supports our goals of safely protecting and preserving the environment”. He added: “Cabrera’s extensive knowledge and experience with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies has proven incredibly valuable in the successful and safe cleanup of sites across the country. We look forward to applying our combined capability and expanding our presence in this market.”

EnergySolutions in October 2023 announced that it was establishing an advanced nuclear fabrication and manufacturing facility to support nuclear plant life extension and new NPP construction as part of its new Nuclear Services division. EnergySolutions had previously focused mainly on safe recycling, processing, and disposal of nuclear material. It lists its areas of expertise as: decommissioning and decontamination; waste disposal; waste processing; transportation/logistics; and nuclear plant waste solutions.
