Davis Besse outage contract for AREVA

13 January 2015

AREVA Inc. has signed a contract with US utility FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC) for outage, maintenance and engineering activities at the Davis-Besse nuclear plant in Ohio.

The contract will begin in 2015 and covers the next three outages at the plant. The scope of work includes refuelling, steam generator inspection, and materials degradation inspection and mitigation, AREVA said.

NDE of the pressurised water reactor's components will be carried out in alignment with the US Electric Power Research Institute's Materials Reliability programme, to ensure the materials' integrity and to safely extend the reactor's long-term operations.

The 925 MW Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Stationis a two-loop B&W pressurised water reactor that entered commercial operation in July 1978. The reactor's current operating licence expires in 2017, but FENOC submitted a 20-year life extension application in 2010.
