Criticality of Russian floating NPP planned for spring 2017

The General Director of Russia’s Baltic Shipyard, Alexei Kadilovym, on 26 December approved preparation for loading fuel into the floating NPP (FNPP) Academician Lomonosov ready for first criticality in the first held of 2017. 

Construction of the 70MWe FNPP, equipped  with two KLT-40S reactors was undertaken following a contract concluded with the Baltic Shipyard  in 2012. By 2015 the housing was completed and the reactors and other  technological systems were installed. Mooring trials began in 2016 and fuel will be delivered to the shipyard in 2017.

Nuclear utility Rosenergoatom is continuing to recruit and train  operators for the FNPP. General Designer JSC  Atomenergo has completed the design and survey work and project documentation for the coastal and hydraulic structures required in Pevek.

In 2016 Rosenergoatom received a subsidy from the federal budget for construction of the infrastructure in the form of property contribution from the Russian Federation to state nuclear corporation Rosatom. Completion of construction of the coastal and hydraulic structures, transportation of the FNPP to Pevek and commissioning of the plant is planned for 2019.
