Construction continues at Belarus NPP

23 August 2016

Despite the recent incident involving damage to the reactor pressure vessel requiring its replacement, construction is continuing at unit 1 of the Belarus NPP being built by Russia’s Atomstroyexport. Installation of the upper tier of the inner containment dome of the reactor building was completed on 19 August, according to owner/operator RUP Belorusskaya NPP. Concreting of the inner containment began in 2014. The inner containment of the reactor building includes the dome at the upper elevations and is an essential component of the localization and protection system. Start-up of Belarus-1 was planned for November 2018. It will now be delayed because of the replacement of the reactor vessel.
